THE BATON OF HOPE UK WORKPLACE PLEDGE

THE BATON OF HOPE UK WORKPLACE PLEDGE

Public Health North Lincolnshire has teamed up with the Baton of Hope UK, a national suicide prevention charity, to deliver the Workplace Pledge.

This workplace pledge prioritises suicide awareness, prevention, and support in the workplace. It is designed to equip individuals and teams with the knowledge and skills to recognise signs of distress among employees.

Why do we need a workplace pledge?

6,000+ deaths by suicide in UK annually.

55% of all lost working days, annually in UK, are due to acute mental health conditions.

Only 1 in 10 employees would be honest about needing a mental health day.

1 in 3 will be diagnosed with a mental health condition.

17 Million lost working days annually.

£56bn cost to UK businesses.

North Lincolnshire Council, alongside British Steel, has signed up to Baton of Hope UK's Gold Workplace Pledge, an initiative designed to improve knowledge, awareness, and training in mental health suicide prevention. As part of this commitment, the Public Health team is offering funded training opportunities for local organisations to take part in an RSPH-accredited Mental Health & Suicide Prevention workshop. This training supports local organisations to strengthen their approach to suicide awareness, prevention, and mental wellbeing in the workplace, helping to create safer, more supportive environments for staff.

The next workplace pledge training will take place on the 17% of June 2026 at British Steel Conference Centre, Gate E, Brigg Road, Scunthorpe.

From 9:30am-4:30am
